Another Tour award for Rory

Rory McIlroy has been named PGA Tour Player of the Year for 2012.

The Ulsterman, at 23, is the youngest to receive the accolade from his fellow-Tour pros since Tiger Woods took the honour in 1998.

McIlroy won four times during the calendar year, including his second Major title at the PGA Championship.

The Tour does not release details of the breakdown of the voting which included four other nominess in Jason Dufner, Brandt Snedeker, Bubba Watson and Woods.

McIlroy also won the PGA Tour money title along with the Vardon Trophy for the lowest scoring average.

John Huh was voted Rookie of the Year, beating nominees Charlie Beljan, Jonas Blixt, Bud Cauley and Ted Potter.

Huh won a tournament in Mexico and was the only rookie to qualify for the Tour Championship in September.

PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said: "These awards are significant to the players as they are bestowed upon them by their peers.

"These are one of the highest compliments a player can receive."
