Appleton eyes new faces

Michael Appleton is hoping to make his first summer signings ahead of Oxford's opening pre-season friendly game at the weekend.

The former Blackburn and Blackpool boss has wasted no time in searching for new talent since he took over at the Kassam Stadium on Monday and is looking to make multiple additions in the coming days.

"I don't think we're a million miles away," the 38-year-old told the Oxford Mail.

"Regardless of my age I'm probably too experienced to get carried away, but (on Wednesday) especially I had two very positive talks with players and agents.

"There's an opportunity that certainly one might be in before the weekend, but the likelihood is by the start of next week instead of it just being one it might be two or three."

The U's kick-off their new campaign against Burton on August 9 and striker Danny Hylton remains their only summer signing to date.
