Aquilani faces uncertain future

On-loan AC Milan midfielder Alberto Aquilani's future remains uncertain and he could be forced to return to Liverpool.

The Italian had appeared certain to trigger an automatic right-to-buy option in his season-long loan at the San Siro, which would be activated after 25 appearances.

But a recent fitness problem for the injury-prone Aquilani means he has currently only made 22 outings and is struggling to regain a place in Massimiliano Allegri's first team.

And the midfielder's agent, Franco Zavaglia, told gazzettagiallorossa.it: "I don't know if AC Milan want to buy him. We must still wait.

"Alberto has recovered from injury and is back at the disposal of the coach. He is only three games short of the automatic right to buy."

Aquilani, who in the summer of 2009 joined Liverpool as a £20million signing from Roma, has himself repeated his stance of preferring to stay at Milan.

He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "I couldn't be better treated. I feel healed. You can't say I'm injured.

"AC Milan were great. They took me to a Dutch specialist and most of all they have advised me well."

Aquilani added with regards to his future: "I like Liverpool, but Milan are at the top"

Zavaglia has already ruled out a potential return to Roma on the perception that Aquilani would be too expensive.
