Ardley hails fighting spirit

AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley hailed his side's fighting spirit after they earned an impressive 1-0 victory at Southend.

A second-half penalty from Jack Midson was enough to end Southend's three-match winning run and move the Dons six points clear of the relegation zone.

"I thought we were great, we showed real heart out there because it's never an easy place to come to for any team," said Ardley.

"It's one win but we need to keep pushing on and secure our place in League Two until the very end.

"These players need a leader at the club and I'm trying to be that person for them.

"Our two centre-halves were superb today even though Andy Frampton had a niggle halfway through the game but he held out and was great for us at the back.

"The work rate throughout the team is unbelievable and I can't fault them at all for that.

"We now just take this result into our next games and continue from there."
