Ascot option for Panther

Tom Dascombe's Brown Panther could drop in trip for the QIPCO sponsored King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot next month.

Owned by Michael Owen, the six-year-old was a leading fancy for the Gold Cup at the Berkshire track last time but connections felt his stamina was stretched to breaking point there as he finished fourth behind Leading Light.

The trainer told Racing UK: \"He had a really hard race. He didn't stay and when that happens they really bottom themselves. He was tired but it's amazing how quickly they recover when they're fit and healthy. Within three days he was back bouncing and he's absolutely on fire.

\"He's in the King George which if it poured with rain, you'd have to think about depending on what happens with the three-year-olds such as Australia and Kingston Hill.

\"The obvious race to go for would be the Goodwood Cup, for which you'd think he'd have a favourite's chance in and he's also in a Group Two in France over a mile-and-six next weekend.\"
