Victoria Azarenka stormed into the second round of the Generali Ladies tournament in Linz with a 6-0 6-2 victory over Arantxa Rus.
The 23-year-old was completely dominant against her Monster-based opponent, who had little success on her serve, producing eight double faults and winning just 17% of points on her second serve.
Azarenka, seeded one, was consistent rather than spectacular on her serve - with four double faults - but she took advantage of six of her eight break points to win in an hour and five minutes.
The Belarussian will now play Simona Halep of Romania.
Eighth seed Sabine Lisicki tumbled out, beaten 6-1 6-3 by Austrian wild card Patricia Mayr-Achleitner.
The Austrian made light of the 124-place rankings gap with a superior all-round performance to win in an hour and four minutes.
Fifth seed Julia Goerges was the first into the third round with a 6-3 6-3 win over Romina Oprandi.
Goerges, of Germany, was more effective on her serve while also taking advantage of 50% of her break points while her Swiss opponent could not manage to convert any of her four opportunities.
Second seed Ana Ivanovic reached the second round but was made to work hard by Monica Niculescu.
Ivanovic, the former world number one, produced two aces and three double faults but she was far more effective and closed out a 7-5 6-3 victory.
Sofia Arvidsson overcame six double faults to join Goerges in the
quarter-finals after she edged out Lucie Hradecka 6-4 7-6 (7/4).
The pair were evenly matched but it was the Swede who prevailed thanks to a marginally more effective serve as well as converting six out of eight break points.
