Baker surges into Nice final
Ben Baker continued his fairytale run at the Nice Open all the way to the final after coming from a set down to beat Nikolay Davydenko.
The American world number 216 had entered the tournament without a main tour win in seven years, but the 27-year-old recovered from dropping a first-set tie-break to come through 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 6-2.
Baker and former world number three Davydenko shared two breaks each in the tight first set before the American took control, breaking the Russian six times over the following two sets to secure the best win of his career to date.
But Baker will face a big test in the final against third seed Nicolas Almagro, after the Spanish clay-court expert and number three seed saw off second seed Gilles Simon 6-1 6-3.
Almagro was in control of the 68-minute match from the start, saving all four break points against him and breaking the Frenchman four times as he reached his third tour final of the season.
