Bangalore notch IPL victory

Royal Challengers Bangalore gained a 46-run victory over the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

Half-centuries from Tillakaratne Dilshan and AB de Villiers helped Royal Challengers Bangalore lift themselves away from the foot of the IPL with a 46-run victory over the Rajasthan Royals.

The Royals, who would have gone into first place with a victory, were set an intimidating target of 190 for victory, but rarely threatened to catch it as they made 143 for seven.

Dilshan finished unbeaten on 76 and De Villiers was 59 not out as Bangalore made 189 for three, with the pair making 122 from 8.2 overs after the departure of Chris Gayle for just four left them on 67 for three.

Rahul Dravid responded with 58 off 42 balls for the Royals, but got little support and after Owais Shah went for 10 with the score on 80 for two, they lost wickets quickly to fall well behind the required run rate.

KP Appanna had plenty to do with that, as the left-arm spinner finished with figures of four for 19 from his four overs.
