Barca sign off with Betis draw

Barcelona's Primera Liga campaign ended with a 2-2 draw at Real Betis during which they had Dani Alves sent off.

Pep Guardiola's trophy-laden four-year reign will not come to an end until after the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao on 25th May, but this was his final league match.

And it looked like Barcelona would sign off in style when Sergio Busquets nodded them in front against Real Betis after just nine minutes from Xavi's corner.

However, the game turned early in the second half when Alves, who had already been booked, was given his marching orders for a wild challenge on Jefferson Montero.

Betis made the most of their numerical advantage to equalise in the 71st minute, with Ruben Castro producing the type of chipped finish that has become Lionel Messi's trademark.

Castro put Betis in front three minutes later with another fine goal after being played in by Benat, only for Barca to salvage an equaliser in stoppage time.

Seydou Keita grabbed the leveller to ensure Barca would finish the season on 91 points, with champions Real Madrid having the opportunity to bring up a century if they beat Real Mallorca on Sunday.

It was the final game in charge for Unai Emery at Valencia, who went down 1-0 to Real Sociedad courtesy of Antoine Griezmann's second-half goal.

With both sides having little to play for, the game started slowly, but it improved after the break as Aritz Aduriz and Pablo Hernandez passed up chances to give the visitors the lead.

Instead Sociedad got the winner midway through the second half as Griezmann slid in to meet Xabi Prieto's cross for his third goal in four games to seal a 12th-placed finish for the Basques, their best in the top flight since coming second in 2003.

Valencia were already assured of a third consecutive third place.
