Barnsley delay deal talks

Barnsley will not be discussing any contract extensions until the end of the season, as they battle to beat the drop.

With the Tykes still unsure as to which division they will be playing in next term, future decisions are having to wait.

The Yorkshire club currently sit three points from safety in the Sky Bet Championship and have just eight games in which to steer a course to safety.

That bid has to be the priority for all concerned at Oakwell, with chief executive Ben Mansford warning those set to become free agents in the summer that they will have to be patient.

He told the Barnsley Chronicle: "The team is currently the most cohesive it has been all season and we don't want to upset that by entering into negotiations with any individuals."

Manager Danny Wilson added: "We have looked at ifs and buts for the summer but that's all they are at this stage.

"From the players' point of view they have to be focused on the job in hand and not what might happen in the summer. Nothing's been decided."

Among those whose deals are running down are Stephen Dawson, Jim O'Brien, Martin Woods, Liam Lawrence, Tomasz Cywka, Jacob Mellis, Kelvin Etuhu, Emmanuel Frimpong, Paddy McCourt and Iain Turner.
