Barnsley keen to keep Dawson

Sky Sports understands Barnsley have offered midfielder Stephen Dawson a new deal amid interest from a host of Championship clubs.

The Irish midfielder has been one of the few bright spots for the Tykes during a difficult season which saw them relegated to the third tier of English football.

Dawson, 28, made 40 appearances in all competitions for Danny Wilson's side this term with his performances attracting admiring glances from rival clubs in the division.

But the former Mansfield, Bury and Leyton Orient player looks set to remain at Oakwell after fresh terms were put on the table by the South Yorkshire club.

Dawson, who moved to Barnsley from Orient on the final day of the January transfer window in 2012, will now set his sights on helping the club secure promotion from Sky Bet League 1.
