Bartlett aim for Apache Jack

Dessie Hughes wants to get one more run into Apache Jack before he tackles the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

The six-year-old made Champion Bumper winner Briar Hill pull out all the stops in the Slaney Hurdle at Naas before eventually going down by just over two lengths.

That was a big step up on his previous 12-length win in a maiden hurdle and Hughes think three miles will bring out the best in him.

However, a lack of options over that trip before March is causing the trainer to scratch his head.

"He'll probably run in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham," said Hughes. "He's a nice type and I'd like to give him one more run before March if I can.

"There's a race over two and a half miles at Leopardstown but there aren't many options over the right sort of trip for him. I wouldn't rule out taking him to England if there was the right race.

"He needs a trip, this horse, and won't be seen to full effect until he gets one."
