Bassey lauds Dons character

Caretaker boss Simon Bassey praised AFC Wimbledon for bouncing back from a late leveller to claim a 2-1 win at Plymouth.

AFC Wimbledon caretaker boss Simon Bassey praised his players for bouncing back from a late leveller to claim a stoppage time 2-1 win at Plymouth.

Midfielder Rashid Yussuff scored a deflected strike in the second minute of stoppage time, three minutes after Rhys Griffiths followed up his own penalty to score after his initial spot-kick was saved by Dons goalkeeper Seb Brown. In-form Dons ace Byron Harrison's fifth goal of the season put them 1-0 ahead on 14 minutes.

Bassey said: "Maybe you do make your luck or maybe you don't but the boys kept going until the last minute and that is all credit to them.

"I thought we played some really good stuff in the first half. After the initial 10 minutes we really got on the front foot and played some cracking stuff.

"I thought we should have been further ahead than we were. We didn't really start the second half well and credit to Plymouth they came at us on the front foot.

"We got a little bit nervous, isolated our forward at times, never took that extra pass when we should have done. I thought the penalty was soft if I am honest but Seb saved it and then were just a little bit on our heels for the rebound so to get the goal was just fantastic, especially in front of our fans."
