Bastiman eyes Goodwood charge

Glorious Goodwood beckons once more for Robin Bastiman's veteran sprinter Borderlescott.

The 10-year-old was forced to miss last year's summer festival having been in action at the Sussex track for the previous five years.

Borderlescott will be considered for the Blue Square Stewards' Cup, in which he has finished first, second and third, and also for the Audi King George Stakes, in which he has been first and fourth.

Should the weather take a much-needed turn for the better over the next week, Bastiman would look at running his stable star in the City Walls Stakes at York on Saturday.

"He's fine but I'm not going to run him again on ground worse than good," Bastiman told At The Races.

"It was soft ground last time and the old boy's joints were creaking a bit.

"He will probably be entered for the Listed sprint at York next Saturday, but if it's good to soft he won't run.

"Then he'll go to Goodwood. There's two races. He's in the Stewards' Cup and there's also the Audi Stakes. We'll see how he goes."
