Batsman primed for big innings

Harry Fry is bullish about Opening Batsman for the Racing Plus Chase at Kempton after 14 horses were left in Saturday's valuable handicap.

Opening Batsman has had just the three races over fences but looks to be on the upgrade and that is what the Dorset trainer believes is in the seven-year-old's favour.

"Opening Batsman is now third or fourth favourite and I reckon we might have less than double figures (in terms of runners) on the day," Fry told www.stanjames.com.

"I'm not sure Join Together will be running for Paul (Nicholls) with Rolling Aces in there and there's a couple of other uncertain runners.

"He has never been better and I'm happier for him to go for a race like this when he's on his way up rather than on the way down."
