Bayern backing for Badstuber

Bayern Munich will not go into the market for a central defender in the summer, as long as Holger Badstuber is fit and ready.

The 24-year-old Germany international has been out of action with a cruciate ligament injury since December 2012 and is expected to make a return at some point next season.

Bayern Munich chairman Uli Hoeness insists that Badstuber's recovery is more important to the club than any new faces.

"If Holger returns fit from his injury, I do not think we will sign a new central defender," said Hoeness to Munich-based newspaper tz.

"We are very hopeful that Holger returns to fitness and we do not want to psychologically break him down, so will not put four or five players in his face."

Badstuber, who has made 149 appearances for Bayern in his career, has been with the club since he was 13 and is under contract until 2017.

Bayern's Brazilian centre back Dante now appears to be staying after rumours of a move away from the Bavarian capital proved wide of the mark.
