Bears bag a win, Jimmy shines

Keith Barker bowled Warwickshire to their third County Championship win of the season at Edgbaston, while Jimmy Anderson shone for Lancashire.

Barker's maiden 10-wicket match haul helped Warwickshire to a nine-wicket win over Durham.

The former England youth international footballer recorded match figures of 10 for 70.

He took five for 37 in Durham's second innings as the visitors were bowled out for 139, with only Phil Mustard (45) and Dale Benkenstein (31) making much headway.

Warwickshire, whose first-innings total of 267 was built on 120 from Ian Bell, quickly rattled off the 36 runs required for victory for the loss of just one wicket.

Andrew Strauss fell one run shy of a half century on his second appearance of the season for Middlesex, but their match against Worcestershire was hit by bad weather for a second day running.

After a washout on Thursday, the second day's play saw only 40.3 overs bowled as bad light and drizzle hung around Lord's.

Strauss's 49 was eclipsed by 59 from Sam Robson, while Joe Denly was unbeaten on 34 as Middlesex made 148 for two.

Bad light was all that could frustrate Nottinghamshire at Old Trafford as they headed towards a comfortable win over Lancashire.

The visitors had carried their overnight score of 122 for two to 304 all out in the second innings as Michael Lumb made 62 and Chris Read 54. That left Lancashire chasing a target of 328 but it quickly became apparent they would not get close as Stuart Broad came to the party.

The England man struggled with the ball in the first innings - his first bowling spell since time out with a calf injury - but got Lancs opener Paul Horton out for a duck with the second ball of the innings and soon after Karl Brown followed.

Graeme Swann also took the scalp of Ashwell Prince as Lancashire were reduced to 39 for five before the weather closed in.

In Division Two, the weather also seemed to be the only thing that could prevent a Yorkshire victory at Scarborough as Leicestershire looked powerless to resist.

Made to follow on in the match, they resumed on Friday morning on three for one and, soon after an early lunch on a disrupted day, found themselves on 14 for three and at risk of an embarrassing reverse.

Matthew Boyce (46 not out) and JJ Cobb (45 not out) stopped the rot, but with the visitors still 229 runs behind on 102 for three, Yorkshire will be confident of finishing the job if the weather holds.

A ton from Kane Williamson has given Gloucestershire the chance to salvage their match against Derbyshire at the County Ground as they edged into a lead before stumps.

Made to follow-on after being bowled out for 206, 182 runs behind, things were looking grim for the visitors when Chris Dent went for two early in the innings.

But Benny Howell made 64 and Williamson was unbeaten on 102 at the close as Gloucestershire reached 219 for two, 37 runs ahead going into the final day.

Bad light hampered the efforts of Essex at Sophia Gardens but they managed to bowl out the hosts for 187 just before the close thanks to a Glamorgan collapse that saw the final six wickets go for 29 runs.

When Mark Wallace went for 13 to leave Glamorgan on 158 for five, it sparked a flurry of wickets that saw them concede a first-innings lead of 72.

Essex added five without loss before stumps. However, with the weather still causing disruption heading into the final day, a draw looks most likely at this stage.

Northamptonshire piled on the runs as they looked to set Hampshire an imposing target having bowled the visitors out cheaply in the morning.

Hampshire were removed for 154 despite 46 not out from James Vince, and Northants then made it to 176 for five, 240 ahead, although the loss of David Sales for 58 shortly before the close hurt their cause.
