Bears 'preparing' for defence

Ashley Giles says Warwickshire have already started preparing for the defence of their Division One title.

The club's director of cricket said the players were back doing some training and technical work at their headquarters in Birmingham.

There are still more than 135 days to go before the 2013 county season starts but Giles said of his squad: "We've been doing fitness testing since the first week of November.

"Lots of guys are in the gym and some are coming into our indoor school to do some technical work on batting.

"Like last year, we started early and we planned well."

The Bears open their campaign next year against Derbyshire but Giles is certainly not complacent ahead of the 2013 season.

He added: "It's vital to find some momentum early by winning the first game.

"They (Derbyshire) did well to get promotion and we won't be taking them lightly."
