Beiersdorfer back at Hamburg

Zenit St Petersburg director of sport Dietmar Beiersdorfer is to return to Hamburg as the club's new chairman.

The club's former director of sport, who parted company with the northern Germany club in 2009, will return at the start of July after reaching an agreement with Zenit over the termination of his contract.

"Today is a very special and emotional day for me," Beiersdorfer said. "After the exciting recent weeks, I am happy and proud to be able to help with the restructuring of Hamburg.

"All of the talks were very professional and I'm delighted by the great faith shown in me by the new advisory board.

"We are going to develop Hamburg with team spirit, passion, competence, professionalism and humility, and all Hamburg fans can be proud of their club once again."

Hamburg are in the process of a reorganisation following the worst season in the club's history.

They only just avoided what would have been a first-ever relegation from the top flight of German football by virtue of an away-goals victory over Greuther Furth in a relegation play-off.
