Bell recalled to ODI squad
England have recalled Ian Bell to the one-day squad for the upcoming series against West Indies in place of the retired Kevin Pietersen.
The Warwickshire batsman is the only player in the 14-man party for the three match ODI series who was not involved in England's most recent 4-0 series victory over Pakistan in February.
National selector Geoff Miller said: "We are anticipating a very competitive NatWest series against West Indies and are looking to continue to build on the progress we made in limited overs cricket earlier this year against Pakistan.
"Kevin Pietersen's recent decision to retire from one-day cricket means we now start looking at other options available to us as we prepare to defend our ICC World Twenty20 title and look towards next year's ICC Champions Trophy and the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup."
It remains to be seen whether Bell, England's most technically correct batsman, be deployed at the top of the order where Pietersen finished his ODI career.
Pietersen's absence also creates an opening in the Twenty20 side as, although he wanted to continue in the shortest form of the game, the England and Wales Cricket Board insisted centrally contracted players must make themselves available for both limited-overs formats or neither.
Nottinghamshire's Alex Hales, whom Pietersen replaced against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, is in contention to get the nod after being named in a 13-man Twenty20 squad.
The ODI series gets underway on June 16 at the Ageas Bowl with the one-off Twenty20 international taking place at Trent Bridge on June 24.
