Bengals topple Cardinals

Cincinnati Bengals picked up their first preseason win after they edged out the Arizona Cardinals 19-13.

Terence Newman returned an interception 54 yards for the only touchdown for the Bengals while Mike Nugent and Quinn Sharp landed two field goals apiece.

Nugent was on target from 48 and 36 yards, while back-up Sharp kicked field goals of 34 and 51 yards in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Arizona’s backup quarterback Drew Stanton connected with rookie John Brown with a 30-yard touchdown pass, while Jay Feely and Chandler Catanzaro both added a field goal.

San Francisco also registered their first win of preseason as the 49ers beat the San Diego Chargers 21-7.

Phil Rivers tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Gates as the Chargers took an early lead.

However Phil Dawson kicked a 39-yard field goal to end an eight-quarter scoreless drought for the 49ers.

Blaine Gabbert, who completed seven-of-11 passes for 66 yards, then threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Vance McDonald as San Francisco moved into the lead.

Dawson added a second field goal, this time from 28 yards, before Glenn Winston rushed over from 27 yards.
