Bentley makes way for Peslier

Harry Bentley has admitted his disappointment after connections of Lightning Thunder confirmed the booking of Olivier Peslier for Friday's Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Bentley partnered the Olly Stevens-trained filly to finish second in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket before going on to claim the same position in the Irish equivalent.

Bentley is second jockey behind Jamie Spencer to owners Pearl Bloodstock and Qatar Racing and with Spencer set to ride Kiyoshi in the Group One contest, he could have been in line for another big-race mount.

However, Peslier will be in the saddle this time, a decision that Bentley fully understands.

He told racinguk.com: "I'm obviously disappointed that I won't be partnering Lightning Thunder in the Coronation Stakes. Pearl Bloodstock and Qatar Racing wanted someone with more big-race experience then myself, and they don't come more experienced than Olivier.

"It is a big operation and I am just delighted to be part of the team. I understand that there will be plenty of other opportunities throughout the remainder of the season and I hope I can make my mark in these top races."

Lightning Thunder and Kiyoshi are among 12 fillies declared for the mile event with Aidan O'Brien relying on beaten 1000 Guineas favourite Tapestry.

John Oxx has declared My Titania, who will be making her seasonal bow, while French raider Lesstalk In Paris and Rosalind, trained in America by Kenny McPeek, add an extra international dimension.

Newmarket fifth Euro Charline tries here luck again along with Guineas also-rans Rizeena, Sandiva and Lucky Kristale, who will be partnered by Richard Hughes this time. J Wonder and Radiator complete the line up.
