Morecambe boss Jim Bentley admitted his side had been pummelled by Rotherham, who came from behind to beat the Shrimps 2-1.
Morecambe took the lead after 29 minutes through former Millers player Kevin Ellison before two second half goals in less than a minute from Daniel Nardiello completed the comeback.
Bentley said: "We are always disappointed with any defeat. But they are a good side and they put us under a lot of pressure. Rightly so, they are one of the favourites to win the league.
"They have an unbelievable amount of quality in their squad and I think we probably deserved what we got tonight. Our hand was a little bit forced by an injury to Lewis Alexandra yesterday but we always thought Kevin Ellison would get us a goal.
"To be fair, I think we defended them pretty well but on the flip side we had some good chances and we knew we could hit them on the break.
"And that is what we did to go in 1-0 at half time, but in the second half, to be fair, they have pummelled us from minute one, but you have got to ride the storm and I was just thinking we were doing that when a lucky break gave them the first goal and we conceded again straight after."
