Berdych beats top seed Tsonga

Tomas Berdych survived a tight encounter with top-seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to claim his second title of the season at the Stockholm Open.

In a heavyweight battle in the Swedish capital, the No 2 seeded Czech recovered from a set and 4-2 down to clinch a 4-6 6-4 6-4 victory.

On court for two and a half hours in the Royal Hall, Berdych held his nerve at the vital moments to clinch his third win over Tsonga in five meetings.

Trailing 2-4 in the second set, Berdych took four games in a row to take the match into a decider.

Tsonga missed a great chance to make the opening break of serve in the very first game, when his opponent slipped 15-40 behind.

Berdych save three break points in that first game and one more in the ninth.

In the end, the only break of the final set arrived in the 10th game as the Monte Carlo based world No 6 sealed his eighth career ATP Tour title on his third match point.
