Berdych top seed in Chennai

Tomas Berdych is the top seed at next week's Chennai Open in India, which is one of three events that raises the curtain on the new ATP Tour season.

The Czech Republic star, who last competed in the tournament two years ago, is one of four players taking part who is ranked inside the world's top 20.

The others are Janko Tipsarevic (9) of Serbia, Croatian Marin Cilic (15) and Stanislas Wawrinka (17) of Switzerland.

Last year's winner was Milos Raonic who beat Tipsarevic in a marathon final.

And the latter said: "It's a great event. You've been seeing a lot of me in the last few years, and every year I am playing better and better as you can see and I really want to win the whole thing this year.

"The Indian crowd is great. And the fact that we play our matches in the evening makes the atmosphere even more electric."

Cilic, a two-time winner of the event, added: "I'm delighted to be back in Chennai, especially since I could not participate in last year's event due to injury.

"It's always a pleasure to play in Chennai, a city that has grown to become a home away from home for me."

The field for this hard court tournament is 28-strong. The other official ATP Tour events next week are in Brisbane, Australia and Doha, Qatar.
