Blackpool bring in Mellis
Blackpool have added another player to their squad ahead of the start of the Sky Bet Championship season with the arrival of Jacob Mellis at Bloomfield Road.
The 23-year-old, whose deal is subject to a medical, becomes just the ninth player on the club's books following a summer of upheaval.
Mellis has been training with the Seasiders for a couple of weeks and has agreed a one-year deal with the option for a further year. He made 33 appearances for Barnsley last season after coming through the youth ranks at Chelsea and he has represented England at various youth levels. "I'm happy to be here. I've been here for two weeks now and I've got used to the place," Mellis told Blackpool's official website.
"I'm looking to come here and be successful."
Mellis follows Tony McMahon, who was with the club last season, and Sergei Zenjov in agreeing terms with Blackpool following new manager Jose Riga's arrival in mid-June.
However, the Tangerines are still way short of fielding a full squad when their Championship campaign begins at Nottingham Forest in 12 days, and they still remain without a goalkeeper.
