Blackpool sign left back Oriol

Blackpool have signed left back Joan Oriol from Spanish side Osasuna, as manager Jose Riga looks to bolster his options ahead of the Sky Bet Championship kick off on August 9.

The 27-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal which is subject to international clearance and includes an option for a further 12 months at Bloomfield Road.

Oriol, who previously made 50 league appearances for Villarreal, completed a medical on Friday and was in attendance for the pre-season game against Burnley on Saturday.

The Spaniard's arrival will come as a welcome boost to beleaguered Blackpool fans, who staged a protest against club chairman Karl Oyston as their team lost the friendly 1-0 at home.

Hundreds of supporters took to the streets around the stadium to voice their displeasure towards Oyston, whose worrying stewardship left Blackpool with just 13 registered players entering the game.

Blackpool are scheduled to begin their campaign with a visit to Nottingham Forest.
