New Bury boss Kevin Blackwell revealed his slight disappointment despite claiming a more than creditable point at Stevenage.
The 53-year-old - who was last in the dugout in 2010 when manager of Sheffield United - watched his side lose the lead before battling back to level 2-2 late on. And Blackwell, goalkeeping coach at Gigg Lane a decade ago, said there was more to come from his new charges.
"If I'm honest I'm slightly disappointed because I thought we had some great chances to win the game," he said.
"I felt we had good control of the game and then a 10-minute spell where we handed the initiative back to Stevenage. But it's the first time we've seen the lads show a real bit of character because previously they have been buckling and going under, but they didn't show that here and should have gone on to win the game.
"When we got the ball down and moved it sharply we looked a good side. It's a question of building that confidence. For me, as soon as we went behind, the players looked fragile and their confidence is telling them 'here we go again'.
"But we've worked on one or two things during the week and they've implemented them and, given a bit more time and work, I'm sure they'll get better."
