Bologna part with coach Pioli

Serie A strugglers Bologna have sacked coach Stefano Pioli after a poor run of form.

Monday's 2-0 loss at Catania was Bologna's third defeat in four league games and dropped the Rossoblu to 17th place, one point and one place clear of the relegation zone.

A statement from the club read: "Bologna announces that in light of our latest disappointing results, the club has been forced with sadness to dismiss coach Stefano Pioli.

"We want to thank Pioli and his staff for the work done in the past few years.

"In the next few hours we will announce his successor."

Pioli took the Bologna reins in October 2011 and led the club to a ninth-place finish in his first season. The following campaign, he guided the side to 13th.

Former Genoa coach Davide Ballardini has been strongly linked with the Bologna hotseat.

Bologna host Lazio on Saturday.
