Bolton see Vela loan benefit

Bolton Wanderers are confident Josh Vela will be returned to them a better player for having spent time on loan at Notts County.

The 20-year-old has made sporadic appearances for Bolton's first team since stepping out of their academy system.

An inability to hold down a regular role, due in part to injury struggles, convinced manager Dougie Freedman that a spell away from the Reebok Stadium would be beneficial to all concerned.

He has been proved correct, with Vela impressing at Meadow Lane for a side scrapping for their Sky Bet League One lives.

Another youngster, Sanmi Odelusi, is also catching the eye in the third tier at MK Dons, and Bolton's U18s coach David Lee is tipping both men to be knocking on Freedman's door when they return to their parent club.

He told the Bolton News: "It is nice to see Josh doing well at Notts County.

"Without his injury this season, I am sure he would have had more of an impact in the first team.

"He has struggled to get regular senior football because of that and this loan will do him the world of good.

"It's a chance for him to prove himself, and I have every confidence he will do that and benefit the club when he comes back.

"The loan system is fantastic for younger players like Josh and Sanmi, who are out at present.

"It is tough at that level down the leagues and if these youngsters can do it there, it will give them the hunger to succeed at the Reebok when they return."
