Bordeaux set to sign Hoarau
Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud has confirmed that a deal is close to being finalised for France striker Guillaume Hoarau.
Hoarau has spent the past 12 months in China with Dalian Aerbin, having left Paris St Germain in January 2013 for a new challenge.
However, he is now set to return to European football and Bordeaux have beaten off competition from a number of other clubs to stand on the brink of securing his services.
A two-and-a-half-year deal is expected to be signed in the coming days, and Triaud is excited about the prospect of pairing Hoarau with Cheick Diabate.
"There are a few details remaining, but we are very happy," Triaud said in L'Equipe.
"We were not alone in trying to sign him. He doesn't come because we have fear with Cheick Diabate's knee injury. but we only have one player of such size.
"I even believe they could play both together. In such a case, I would not like to be in our opponents' position."
Triaud is also looking to bring in reinforcements at the back, adding: "Even if we have quite a lot of defenders, sometimes we had difficulties with suspensions and injuries.
"If we can get a good opportunity we will think about it. That is what we decided with coach Francis Gillot at the end of the year."
