Middlesbrough striker Lukas Jutkiewicz is expected to be on the sidelines for up to five weeks after injuring his knee in training.
Jutkiewicz, 23, suffered the injury in training and scans later revealed a Grade 2 in a lateral knee ligament.
Boro's top scorer missed the start of the season after undergoing surgery during the summer on his other knee.
"He's had a scan and he's seen a specialist and it doesn't seem that he needs an operation," manager Tony Mowbray told the Evening Gazette.
"It was a training ground collision, nothing out of the ordinary but unfortunately Lukas suffered some damage. Hopefully it just needs time to heal."
The former Coventry man joined Boro on loan in January before making the move permanent.
