Brentford turn to Warburton

Brentford are set to appoint their sporting director, Mark Warburton, as their new manager, according to Sky sources.

Following Uwe Rosler's departure to Wigan, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Michael Appleton have been linked with the vacant post at Griffin Park, but Brentford have decided to appoint from within.

Warburton, a former Watford youth coach, was linked with West Bromwich Albion last season as the Premier League club looked for a new sporting director.

He has been at the club since Feburary 2011, working alongside the then caretaker manager Nicky Forster. He became sporting director in 2012.

He is well-regarded in the game and was heavily involved in the set-up of the NextGen Series which pits European U19 sides against each other in a competition similar to the Champions League.
