Worcester centre Andy Short will miss the start of the new season after suffering a wrist injury in the Premiership 7s Series on Thursday.
The former England U20 international was taken to hospital after injuring his wrist in the second game of the night against hosts Gloucester at Kingsholm.
Worcester have confirm that Short has suffered a fracture to his right wrist and will undergo surgery in Gloucester on Friday.
"We are all hugely disappointed for Andy after he had got himself fully fit for the new season after suffering injury at the latter stages of last season while on loan at Cornish Pirates," said head coach Richard Hill.
"I know Andy was keen to make a big impression in the team this season with real competition for places in the back line. We now wish him a speedy and successful recovery under the guidance of the medical and rehabilitation backroom team at Sixways."
