Leeds defender Leigh Bromby will undergo surgery this week after rupturing his patella tendon during the weekend draw at Cardiff.
Bromby was stretchered off in agony after slipping awkwardly unopposed and could be ruled out for up to a year.
The Dewsbury-born 31-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular place in the first team at Elland Road this season, but had started in four of Leeds' last five games under manager Neil Warnock.
Bromby, who began his career at Sheffield Wednesday and had two stints at Sheffield United before joining Leeds in September 2009, has made a total of 12 appearances this season.
