Broner wins lightweight title
Unbeaten Adrien Broner seized the WBC lightweight title on Saturday with an eighth-round technical knockout of Mexican Antonio DeMarco on Saturday.
DeMarco had no answer to Broner's power and speed at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall, with Broner taking charge from the opening bell and finally sending his opponent to his knees with a right to the body and swinging left.
DeMarco's corner immediately threw in the towel and the referee called a halt at 1:49 of the eighth.
"Once I'm in there, where I've got a gameplan and I see something I go after it," said Bronr, who improved to 25-0 with 21 victories inside the distance. "I knew he would have the skills and the will to beat me."
In Los Angeles, Brian Viloria stopped Hernan Marquez in the 10th round to add the WBA world flyweight title to his own WBO belt.
Viloria knocked Marquez down with a right late in round one and continued to dominate the early rounsd, before a flurry from the Mexian in the fifth forced him onto the defensive.
When Viloria put Marquez down for a third time with a left to the head in the 10th, Marquez's corner threw in the towel.
