Brown content with his lot

Southend manager Phil Brown felt both sides deserved a point after Kevan Hurst salvaged a 1-1 draw against Rochdale.

Dale went in front when Jamie Allen fired home a fine finish in the 14th minute, but his effort was cancelled out on the stroke of half-time by the in-form Hurst.

"It wasn't our best performance and I know we can do better, but credit to Rochdale because they're a good side and I think a draw was about right," said Brown.

"Both of the teams could have won it out there, but our point was down to two key moments.

"First of all Luke Prosser did very well indeed to block the efforts on the line and then Kevan popped up with another moment of magic to get a goal.

"He's doing that quite regularly for us at the moment and it was a great to see that go in, but I didn't feel as though we ever got on a real roll.

"We worked hard, but Rochdale are a good team. They work hard like ourselves and they came here with a gameplan which made it difficult for us."
