Brunt signs new Albion deal

West Brom supporters have been handed a boost after captain Chris Brunt signed a new three-year contract with the club.

The new deal, which keeps Brunt at The Hawthorns till June 2017, comes after West Brom activated a 12-month option on the midfielder's contract.

The 29-year-old is one match shy of making 250 appearances for the club he joined from Sheffield Wednesday in 2007.

West Brom manager Alan Irvine said: "I'm delighted we have extended Chris' contract by a further two years.

"He's our captain, has great quality and experience and is clearly a very, very important player for us.

"Chris is an influential figure both on and off the pitch. He has the respect of all the players and staff and is a top class professional."

Brunt follows England goalkeeper in committing his future to West Brom in what has been a busy summer for the club.

In addition to Irvine's appointment as Pepe Mel's successor, West Brom have signed eight players including England defender Joleon Lescott and on-loan Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom.
