Burdisso set for Roma exit
Roma defender Nicolas Burdisso has announced his intentions to leave the club in order to keep his World Cup hopes alive.
The 32-year-old has found first team opportunities scarce so far this season, having made just five Serie A appearances for Rudi Garcia's side.
Although he remains optimistic of making the Argentina squad for Brazil, Burdisso has not represented the national team since 2011 and he admits that needs to be playing regular football.
"I think that after four-and-a-half years here, a cycle can be closed," he said.
"I must think about the possibilities to go to the World Cup because I've played in two of them and until last season, I was playing with my national team.
"Garcia has been clear since the beginning of the season - we have three players for two places."
Meanwhile, Everton defender John Heitinga has emerged as a target for Roma, having already turned down a switch to West Ham earlier in the transfer window.
