Burnley wait on Ings news

Burnley face an anxious wait to discover just how serious top scorer Danny Ings' ankle problem is, with the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year due to see a specialist on Wednesday.

The England Under-21 international missed only his second game of the season on Saturday after coming off injured in last Wednesday's 3-3 draw with Birmingham.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche claimed the problem was "nothing sinister" in his pre-match interview for last weekend's 2-1 win over Leeds, which maintained Burnley's push for an automatic promotion spot.

However, Dyche divulged more information on his 25-goal striker's injury following Saturday's victory with Ings having possibly damaged his upper ankle ligaments.

"He'll see someone next week who is better informed than me," Dyche told radio reporters.

"It's an upper ligament sprain. We don't know the exact details of it but we will know more this week."

Ings won the Championship Player of the Year gong at the Football League Awards on Sunday night and, when interviewed, revealed he hopes to find out more by Wednesday.

"My ankle's okay," he said. "I'm seeing a specialist on Wednesday to see how it is."
