Burns faces undefeated foe

Ricky Burns will hope to put himself in line for a world title when he faces Montenegrin Dejan Zlaticanin at Glasgow's Braehead Arena on June 27.

Burns is aiming to get back on the winning trail after losing his WBO lightweight title to American Terence Crawford on points in March.

The 31-year-old, who has 36 victories from 40 contests, tackles the undefeated southpaw for the WBC international belt in a 12 rounder which is also an official eliminator for the world title.

Zlaticanin has claimed 18 wins on the trot - 13 by knockout - since turning professional in 2008, but has never fought outside of the Balkans.

"I don't know much about the guy I'm fighting," said Burns. "I know he is ranked nine by the WBC, I know he's a southpaw and he's undefeated.

"But my new trainer, Tony, has already had a look at him and has already started sourcing sparring partners for me, so I know whatever happens on the night I am going to be ready for it, as I always am.

"For this fight I think I have a point to prove to myself more than anything. After the last fight people were saying 'Ricky Burns is a shot fighter', but that's not the case and it has made me more determined.

"I know I have a third world title in me and this is just a stepping stone towards that."

Massive show

Burns will top the Sky Sports bill in front of his home-town fans on a card which also features fellow Glaswegian Willie Limond.

Limond will put his Commonwealth light-welterweight title on the line against British champion Curtis Woodhouse.

Stephen Simmons and Wadi Camacho will settle their differences in a re-arranged cruiserweight clash after the pair traded verbal blows at a press conference at the start of the year.

"I can't wait for another massive Glasgow show, with a packed card of great fights," said promoter Eddie Hearn.

"It's a huge opportunity for Ricky to get back into the world title mix with the WBC, there's an old school 50-50 in Limond versus Woodhouse and a true grudge match with Simmons against Camacho."
