Burns left with Saxons squad

Freddie Burns' Six Nations hopes look to have been put on hold after he was asked to remain with the England Saxons group ahead of their game against Scotland A next Friday.

Stuart Lancaster's 35-man Six Nations squad reported back to Pennyhill Park on Sunday evening, but Burns, the only member of the Elite squad asked to turn out for the junior team on Saturday, was not among them.

Lancaster said: "We feel Freddie will benefit by staying with the Saxons. It allows him more game time and it provides continuity in the squad as they prepare to face Scotland A."

Gloucester fly-half Burns started the Saxons' 14-8 defeat to the Ireland Wolfhounds at Kingsholm on Saturday.

England face France at the Stade de France in their Six Nations opener on Saturday, while the Saxons tackle Scotland A in Scotstoun.
