Burton slip to Ilkeston defeat
Burton lost 1-0 at Ilkeston in their first pre-season friendly game on Tuesday night.
The non-league side started brightly and took the lead after only three minutes from the penalty spot. It looked a dubious decision but Rob Duffy scored after Ian Sharps' challenge on Kane Richards was deemed to be a foul.
Albion boss Gary Rowett fielded two different sides in each half, with some youth-team players showing they have something to offer and all four new signings - George Taft, John Mousinho, Stuart Beavon and Lucas Akins - impressing in spells.
Three trialists were included in the second-half XI - goalkeeper Joe Anyon, left-back Louis Cutajar and striker Thomas Verheydt.
Verheydt is a 22-year-old Dutch striker who has been training with the club, while Anyon, 27, played more than 100 games for Port Vale and was released by Shrewsbury this summer. Cutajar is English but has represented Malta at youth level.
