Button: Everything in place

Jenson Button is itching to get his hands on a second Formula One world title this season and believes there are now no excuses.

In winning the championship in 2009 Button admitted at the time he had realised his dream, that once was effectively enough because no one could ever take the feat away from him.

But after two years with McLaren, and last season in particular proving he is no patsy to team-mate Lewis Hamilton, the 32-year -old wants to savour the sweet taste of title success again.

And as far as Button is concerned, everything is in place for him to do so, believing he has the perfect team around him.

Button was also in the ideal place to air his views too, in the relaxing environment of the Cadogan Arms on the King's Road in London after taking on members of the British national press in a few games of pool.

His talent with a cue, however, does not match that he possesses behind the wheel where there is real determination to become a double world champion.

"My first year at McLaren I initially thought would be very tough, moving to a new team, but it was a pretty good year really, a very good learning year," said Button.

"Last year I felt I did the best with the car I had, that I really grew with the team, felt a big part of McLaren, not just a driver, but a big part of the team.

"So there are no excuses this year. I feel we have everything.

"The relationship I have with my engineers and mechanics is very good, and there's a really good understanding there.

"There's nothing to fall back on and say 'This is the reason why we didn't win in 2012'.

"So I'm very happy now with my position within the team, and to win the world championship with McLaren would be amazing.

"To win anything would be amazing, but with a team you've been with for two years, have such a good relationship with and feel a big part of after such a short period, it would mean more than just arriving and driving the best car."

For Button, winning the world title with McLaren would mean as much as his first with Brawn GP.

On a personal basis, Button also believes he has the pieces in place, unlike Hamilton who is still attempting to find the right package to suit him.

Earlier this month Hamilton confirmed he would be assisted during grands prix by Didier Coton, an experienced driver manager who has previously worked with the likes of two-time champion Mika Hakkinen.

From his perspective, Button could not be happier as he said: "My manager, physio, PA, PR man, you put them in place, but you don't purposefully have them around you to make you feel better.

"It just happens because you feel it's right. It's not something you actually go out to achieve.

"But I've been through quite a few managers in the past, and it has taken me a little while to find my feet, and the right people to surround myself with.

"For me, now, I have the best manager in F1, the best PR man, best PA and physio, so I'm lucky in one way, but I also experienced the bad as well as the good.

"So for me over the winter I've not refined anything in any way. I've not needed to."

Button returns to the car on Thursday for two further days of testing in the MP4-27 at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya.

Unlike last year, this season McLaren appear to be on the right track, much to Button's delight.

"We're on target," said Button.

"There's nothing to say we're one-and-a-half seconds quicker than anyone, but then there's also nothing to say we're not fast.

"The car feels nice to drive, I feel very comfortable in it and it does everything you expect it to. It's just developing it now for the first race.

"But it's good to be back. I feel very confident in my ability, with my input into the car and the team feeling I'm playing my part.

"It's all moving in the right direction, so I'm happy."
