Cabedo killed in training accident
Spanish cyclist Victor Cabedo has died after being hit by a vehicle while training on Wednesday, his team have confirmed.
The 23-year-old Euskaltel Euskadi rider, who recently took part in the Tour of Britain, was struck on a road between Almedijar and Ain near Valencia on east coast of Spain.
A statement on www.fundacioneuskadi.com read: "The Euskaltel Euskadi cycling team confirm the death of its cyclist Victor Cabedo after being hit by a vehicle while training on the road in the province of Castellon.
"The family of the Euskadi Cycling Foundation send their sincerest condolences to Victor's family, girlfriend and friends at this difficult time. Rest in peace Victor Cabedo."
Tributes have been pouring in for Cabedo, with his countryman Alberto Contador tweeting in Spanish: "I can't believe it, I've just heard about Victor Cabedo's accident, good cyclist and a better person. My sincerest condolences to his family."
The Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) described Cabedo as "one of the great prospects of national cycling, with a great record in the youth levels" in a statement on their website.
