Cala in Cardiff link

Sevilla have confirmed the departure of Juan Cala amid reports the defender will sign for Cardiff City on a free transfer.

Cala was due to be out of contract at Sevilla at the end of the season and he rejected the offer of an extension.

The Primera Liga side have announced that a deal has been reached to cancel the 24-year-old's contract after a Premier League club showed an interest.

Newcastle United had been linked with a move for the centre-half, but reports claim Cala will officially join Cardiff in the coming days.

He was reported to be in attendance for Cardiff's 2-1 win over Norwich City on Saturday which was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first victory as a Premier League manager.

Solskjaer was busy bolstering his squad during the January transfer window as the Norwegian attempts to keep Cardiff in the top flight.

The former Manchester United striker signed Fabio da Silva and Wilfried Zaha from his old club, in addition to Kenwyne Jones, and his compatriots Magnus Wolff Eikrem, Mats Moller Daehli and Jo Inge Berget.
