Captain Chris misses Gold Cup
Captain Chris will miss Friday's Cheltenham Gold Cup and the rest of the season after suffering a setback, his trainer Philip Hobbs says.
The 10-year-old has been in fantastic form this season, building on an encouraging comeback third in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon with brilliant victories at Kempton and Ascot.
Despite his obvious preference for right-handed tracks, connections were looking forward to a second tilt at steeplechasing's blue riband, having finished sixth 12 months ago.
However, he will not be making the trip to Prestbury Park.
Hobbs said: "He's out, unfortunately.
"He has a suspensory problem and won't run again this season."
Meanwhile Tony McCoy will reportedly switch to ride Crabbie's Grand National favourite Triolo D'Alene in the same race, having previously committed himself to partner Teaforthree for Rebecca Curtis.
With stable jockey Barry Geraghty aboard Bobs Worth, Henderson had been on the look-out for a rider for his number two hope, who has been quietly supported in the betting for the race in recent days.
Paul Carberry and Andrew Tinkler were both believed to have been under consideration, but Henderson has opted to book the 18-times champion.
