Catterick confident for Friday

Officials at Catterick are pretty confident their National Hunt meeting on Friday afternoon will beat the weather.

Although rain is due on raceday, it is not expected to unduly affect the North Yorkshire fixture.

"I'm quite confident now. I was a bit jittery about frost, but that seems to have gone. We're not going to get any now," said clerk of the course Fiona Needham.

"We are really not due any rain now until Friday, just in time for racing. We should be fine. Hopefully people will come along, and bring their umbrellas."

The going was described on Wednesday afternoon as heavy on the chase course and heavy, soft in places on the hurdles track.
