Champagne result in Supreme

Champagne Fever (5/1) led from start to finish in the William Hill Supreme Novices' Hurdle on the first day of the Cheltenham Festival.

The Willie Mullins-trained horse had to fend off My Tent Or Yours up the hill but he battled on gamely under the Ruby Walsh drive to hold off Tony McCoy and the hot 15/8 favourite by half a length.

My Tent Or Yours looked to be going best of all rounding the home turn but he just couldn't get by the game front-runner who was winning at the Festival for the second year running after landing the Champion Bumper last season.

Mullins told Racing UK: "Ruby was very good, I didn't give him any instructions. He controlled it beautifully from the front."

Walsh said: "He jumped like a stag and travelled really well."

Owner JP McManus had to settle for second and third as Jezki (5/1) finished a further two-and-a-quarter lengths behind the front two.
