Chanderpaul sent for side scan

West Indies' key Test batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has had a scan after complaining of soreness in his side.

While the rest of the England and West Indies teams were kept waiting at rainy Edgbaston until a washout was confirmed on day one of the third Test, Chanderpaul went to hospital to seek a diagnosis.

A team spokesman was optimistic the delayed start might give Chanderpaul a chance of playing, and helping West Indies' bid to avoid a 3-0 series whitewash.

The spokesman said: "Shiv went to hospital for a scan.

"A day off gives him a chance to see how well he goes."
